The Daily Journal.- The Venezuelan government has delivered 528 homes to people affected by the earthquakes that struck on June 24, representing 13.2% of the 4,000 housing units that Delcy Rodríguez’s administration pledged to deliver before the end of 2026.
State-run television channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV) reported the figure on Wednesday during a broadcast from Fuerte Tiuna in Caracas, where Rodríguez participated in a ceremony to hand over 151 new homes to families affected by the two earthquakes.
With 528 homes delivered, the government has completed just over one-tenth of its announced target.
Rodríguez announced a monthly housing delivery plan in July to assist displaced families and set a goal of completing 4,000 homes before the end of the year. During Wednesday’s ceremony, the acting president reiterated that everyone who remains in temporary shelters will receive a home.
“We continue on this path so that every person staying in a temporary camp knows that they will have a home, that they will recover a complete home in a new house, because we are not resting in our efforts to support and stand by the victims,” Rodríguez said.
A target still far away
The earthquakes that struck on June 24 left 18,000 people displaced and prompted authorities to open more than 100 temporary shelters in the affected areas.
So far, progress leaves a considerable gap between the number of homes delivered and the government’s announced commitment.
To reach the planned 4,000 units, the government would need to deliver another 3,472 homes during the remainder of 2026. That would require delivering more than six times as many homes as have been completed so far.
As of September 10, just over three and a half months remain before the end of the year. To meet the official target, the government would need to deliver an average of about 31 homes per day, or approximately 217 per week, through December 31.
The required pace far exceeds the rate recorded so far, although available official information does not yet indicate how many homes are under construction or completed and awaiting allocation.
