The Daily Journal — The Venezuelan government reported on Saturday that the death toll from the twin earthquakes that struck in June has risen to 4,333, while the number of injured stands at 16,740.
According to the official report, the earthquakes damaged more than 850 buildings and destroyed 190 structures, leaving 17,907 people without homes. One day earlier, Acting President Delcy Rodríguez announced the launch of a biometric registry to document people displaced by the disaster who are staying in government shelters.
Authorities have opened 94 temporary camps, which currently house 18,437 people. To support relief efforts, distribution networks have delivered 9,766 metric tons of food and 16,617,508 liters of water.
Seventeen days after the earthquakes, 2,422 foreign specialists continue to assist humanitarian operations across the country. During the first days of the emergency, more than 3,500 international personnel participated in the response. Several foreign delegations have returned to their home countries over the past week after taking part in an unprecedented humanitarian deployment in Venezuela’s history.
