The Daily Journal.— Activating each oil rig in Venezuela will create around 200 direct jobs, according to data from Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) cited by Acting President Delcy Rodríguez.

“Each rig activates 200 jobs, 200 workers,” Rodríguez said during the inauguration of a boulevard in Puerto La Cruz, Anzoátegui state.

Rodríguez said job creation will prove especially significant for regions that receive new investment linked to the energy industry.

“The job creation that will come to the states receiving investment is very important,” she said.

Rodríguez presented the figure as part of the economic impact she expects from the new oil agreements signed following the deal with the United States involving 65 billion barrels of the country’s proven crude oil reserves.

Last weekend, PDVSA Executive Vice President Jovanny Martínez said the state oil company plans to reactivate 250 drilling rigs nationwide.

Martínez estimated that the program’s technical and logistical activities could require at least 100,000 workers.
