The Daily Journal.- U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Juan Pablo Segura said Friday that restoring access to numerous online websites in Venezuela signals progress in the country since January 3.
“The Trump Administration’s three-phase plan continues delivering results. Yesterday, access to many online portals went back online in Venezuela after years of censorship,” Segura wrote on social media.
The U.S. official described the restoration of access to those websites as “a strong sign that we continue making progress in Venezuela following January 3rd.”
Segura linked the reopening of the websites to President Donald Trump’s administration’s three-phase plan for Venezuela.
On Thursday, Venezuela’s National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) announced the restoration of access to several national and international digital platforms and news outlets that had remained blocked in the country.
The announcement came on the same day that representatives of the National Assembly elected in 2015 and Delcy Rodríguez’s interim government began their second round of negotiations, which includes freedom of expression on its agenda.
Non-governmental organizations have reported that at least 14 news websites were unblocked.
