The Daily JournalThe future administration of the Strait of Hormuz will be addressed as a regional matter through dialogue and joint decision-making between Iran and Oman, Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported on Friday.

Earlier in the day, local media outlets disclosed details of a draft agreement between Washington and Tehran that includes a U.S. commitment to lift sanctions on Iran, withdraw its forces from areas surrounding the country, end the naval blockade, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and release frozen Iranian assets.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that he and U.S. President Donald Trump are in “full agreement” on preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

“As long as I serve as Prime Minister of Israel, Iran will not have nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu said in a statement issued by his office on Friday.

The previous day, the two leaders spoke by phone about the memorandum of understanding (MoU) currently taking shape with Iran as a framework for launching negotiations.

Although Israel is not a party to the MoU, Netanyahu thanked Trump for his commitment to ensuring that any final agreement includes the removal of Iran’s enriched material, the dismantling of its enrichment facilities, limits on missile production, and an end to its support for what Israel describes as regional allied groups, which it labels “terrorist proxies,” according to the statement.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said in an interview published Thursday by the state-run broadcaster Press TV that key sections of the proposed MoU are close to completion.

In recent weeks, Iran and the United States have exchanged several proposals outlining conditions for peace under Pakistani mediation and have worked toward finalizing a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war.
