Government raises earthquake death toll to 3,685, reports more than 1,000 aftershocks

The Daily Journal.— Thirteen days after the twin earthquakes struck north-central Venezuela, the government’s latest official report places the death toll at 3,685, while the number of injured has risen to 16,740.

Seismic activity remains ongoing. Authorities have recorded 1,076 aftershocks since the main earthquakes on June 24, according to Jorge Rodríguez, who released the updated figures through his Telegram channel.

Authorities have also identified 856 damaged buildings, including 190 structures that collapsed completely. As a result, 17,907 people have lost their homes.

Emergency response continues

The national government has deployed 29,567 security and emergency personnel across the disaster zone, supported by a network of 28,362 civilian volunteers.

International assistance has also strengthened the response. A total of 4,388 foreign rescue workers are now helping with search-and-rescue operations and debris removal.

Emergency crews have rescued 6,462 survivors from collapsed structures. That figure has remained unchanged for several days.

Humanitarian relief efforts expand

According to the government, social assistance programs have already reached 86,794 families across the country.

Officials also reported ongoing delivery of medical care and essential supplies to affected communities and to the 87 temporary camps established after the disaster.

Relief teams have distributed 9,603 metric tons of nutritional supplies and 8,322,853 liters of drinking water through the emergency network.

Authorities added that 25,970 patients have already received primary medical care.
