The Daily Journal — Acting President Delcy Rodríguez met with a delegation from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Caracas on Friday, according to the Presidential Press Office.
Anabel González, the IDB’s Vice President for Countries and Regional Integration, led the delegation alongside Andre Soares, the institution’s country office chief, and Miguel Coronado, General Manager for the Andean Region.
According to the official statement, the meeting advances Venezuela’s economic and social development through cooperation with multilateral institutions. Authorities also described the meeting as a milestone in restoring international financial dialogue and expanding multilateral cooperation to support the country’s development.
Non-repayable funds for post-earthquake reconstruction
During the meeting, Rodríguez announced that both the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank (WB) had offered Venezuela non-repayable financial assistance to support reconstruction efforts following the twin earthquakes that struck on June 24.
She also explained how the government plans to allocate the emergency funding.
“The resources from the fund will finance housing reconstruction and will include every auditing mechanism,” Rodríguez said.
For its part, the IDB supports these efforts as part of its broader goal of promoting regional economic stability, in line with the normalization of technical relations that institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank have pursued during the first half of the year.
Rodríguez attended the working meeting alongside the senior members of her economic cabinet.
