Consular reactivation marks the first stage
According to an official statement from Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry, the first phase of the agreement calls for the immediate reactivation of consular relations.
The measure seeks to guarantee assistance, protection and essential consular services for Venezuelan nationals living in Chile and Chilean nationals residing in Venezuela.
Both governments stated that the process builds on the historic ties of solidarity and regional integration that unite the two countries. They also reaffirmed their commitment to conduct the talks under the principles of mutual respect, reciprocity and full compliance with international law.
