The Daily Journal – Technicians from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) assessed the Guri Dam, Venezuela’s main source of electricity generation, which supplies more than 60% of the country’s power.
The assessment falls under the U.S. Department of State’s Power Sector Program. It represents part of the three-phase plan promoted by President Donald Trump’s administration and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Located in Bolívar state, the Guri Dam ranks among the world’s largest hydroelectric facilities and has supported Venezuela’s power system for decades. Its stable operation remains essential to preventing the widespread blackouts that have affected the country in recent years.
So far, neither Venezuela’s Ministry of Electric Power nor the state-owned utility Corpoelec has issued an official statement regarding the technical assessment conducted by the U.S. experts.
