The Daily Journal.— Labor representatives from Siderúrgica del Orinoco (Sidor) and various productive sectors in eastern Venezuela met in Caracas to consolidate a space for dialogue and present proposals aimed at improving workers’ socioeconomic conditions.
The meeting brought together delegates from Bolívar, Anzoátegui, and Monagas states representing 25 industrial sectors. Among the priorities outlined in the main document, participants emphasized the importance of restoring workers’ incomes to guarantee wages comparable to professional standards across the region and in line with current economic conditions.
They also called on authorities to incorporate proposals from rank-and-file industrial workers into economic recovery policies. They urged them to renew worker representation so that it effectively addresses the workforce’s immediate needs.
During the meeting, Sidor labor leader José Meléndez stressed the need to open direct channels for the productive sector to participate in decision-making. “We are not against anyone; we are in favor of the people,” he said, while highlighting workers’ commitment to collective well-being.
For his part, oil workers’ leader Robert González said the initiative seeks to promote a national dialogue and includes visits to different regions of the country to continue hearing requests from various industrial sectors.
“We are building a workers’ political organization to defend their rights,” González said, adding that they remain focused on maintaining an ongoing consultation agenda that contributes to strengthening Venezuela’s productive sector.
