Venezuela ranked among India’s leading oil suppliers in August, as the country imported an average of 4.5 million barrels per day.
The Daily Journal.- Venezuelan oil accounted for 9% of India’s crude imports in August, according to the monthly report that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) released on Tuesday.
The oil-producing group reported that India’s total crude imports averaged 4.5 million barrels per day.
The figure is up from July, when Venezuelan oil accounted for 4% of India’s crude imports.
In August, Russia remained India’s leading crude oil supplier, accounting for 45% of imports, followed by the United Arab Emirates at 12% and Venezuela at 9%, according to OPEC data.
India’s crude oil imports fell 11% from July, when they averaged 5.1 million barrels per day, down 565,000 barrels per day. However, August imports exceeded the same-month volume in 2025 by 596,000 barrels per day, marking a year-over-year increase of nearly 13%.
In July, alongside Russia and the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia supplied 8% of India’s crude imports, while Venezuela and Brazil each accounted for 4%.
Venezuela’s growing share comes amid developments in a strategic market for oil exporters, given India’s importance as a global energy consumer and the significant role its purchases play in international crude oil trade flows.
