Delcy Rodríguez announced a two-thirds reduction in this tax category as part of a reform to simplify procedures and ease tax burdens.

The Daily Journal – The Venezuelan government has reduced the number of special taxpayers from more than 132,000 to 44,000, a category that includes individuals and businesses subject to specific obligations under the national tax system, Delcy Rodríguez announced Thursday.

The measure represents about a 67% decrease in the number of taxpayers in this category, according to figures Rodríguez released. She presented the adjustment as part of an effort to modernize tax administration.

“Today, we are taking new steps to modernize the system, simplify procedures, and ease the burden on our taxpayers,” Rodríguez stated. However, she did not specify the criteria authorities used to determine which individuals or legal entities would no longer fall under this category or explain how the decision would affect their tax obligations.

The reduction also comes alongside the suspension of mandatory fiscal cash registers and the introduction of a system that allows different government agencies to cross-reference data. According to Rodríguez, this tool aims to optimize tax collection and prevent tax evasion.

The reorganization of the special taxpayer registry marks one of several changes authorities have announced as they seek to increase tax revenues. Rodríguez reported that tax collection rose 27% in September compared with the same month last year and claimed that October revenues have already exceeded the established target, although she provided no absolute figures.

Rodríguez maintained that stronger tax collection should provide more resources for housing, healthcare, education, and social welfare.
