The Daily Journal – Opposition leader Dinorah Figuera said she hopes Venezuela will hold elections “late next year or in early 2028,” but warned that authorities must first establish guarantees to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.

In an interview with El Nacional, Figuera said she remains optimistic about elections but emphasized that restoring the electoral system’s credibility should take priority over setting a specific date.

“I would rather focus on ensuring electoral guarantees and restoring confidence in the vote, although I’m almost afraid to say it, than on the date itself,” she said when asked about holding elections next year.

Figuera argued that Venezuela needs an electoral process free from fraud that responds to the population’s demands. “We must offer the Venezuelan people fair, credible elections with proper guarantees,” she said.

To achieve that goal, she stressed the need to dismantle what she considers the structure currently surrounding the electoral process. She also criticized the National Electoral Council (CNE) for failing to publish the results of the July 28 presidential election.

“So far, we haven’t even received an official result for July 28 from the National Electoral Council,” she stated.

Although Figuera expressed hope that Venezuelans will have another opportunity to vote, she insisted that any future election must take place under conditions that ensure transparency and public confidence in the results.
