The Daily Journal. — The United Nations System in Venezuela has deployed emergency medical infrastructure along the country’s central coast to address the health crisis caused by last Wednesday’s twin earthquakes. The operation comes as international rescue teams continue arriving to search collapsed structures for survivors.
UN Resident Coordinator in Venezuela Gianluca Rampolla told EFE that the international organization has set up three field hospitals in La Guaira state to provide immediate medical care for people injured by the magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes, which have claimed at least 1,430 lives, according to the latest preliminary figures.
Field assessment and logistical coordination
The senior UN official traveled to the affected communities along the central coast to assess the population’s most urgent needs and oversee local command centers.
Through his official account on X, Rampolla described the scale of the international response supporting Venezuela:
“Together with the UN Venezuela team, I have traveled to the areas impacted by the earthquakes and to the Search and Rescue Coordination Center in La Guaira. At this moment, Venezuela is receiving support from 23 countries that have mobilized resources, equipment, and specialized teams to search for people who remain trapped beneath the rubble.”
Global solidarity in response to the emergency
The UN delegation reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside civilian and military authorities operating in the disaster zone to improve the distribution of humanitarian supplies and accelerate rescue operations.
“We stand with the Venezuelan people, working hand in hand with the Government, the Sole Authority, the military, and Civil Protection to coordinate humanitarian assistance, save lives, and respond to this emergency as quickly as possible. We thank every country and every individual supporting Venezuela,” the Resident Coordinator said.
Rampolla concluded his remarks by reflecting on the international response to the disaster affecting the South American nation.
“In a world where some conflicts unfold through missiles and violence, another world also exists—the world of solidarity, which comes alive during humanity’s darkest hours.”
