Xinhua. — Venezuela received more than 226 tons of humanitarian aid on Tuesday from the Caribbean, Eurasia, and the Middle East, highlighting the geopolitical diversity of the international response to the earthquakes that devastated the country’s central coast on June 24.
Acting President Delcy Rodríguez personally received three of the four shipments and led a day of activities during which National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez also stressed that the government accepted every offer of international assistance without exception.
The most symbolic shipment came from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM): 88 tons of heavy machinery, medical supplies, and specialized personnel coordinated by Guyana, despite its ongoing territorial dispute with Venezuela over the Essequibo region.
“I feel deeply moved because I stand among CARICOM countries, our Caribbean neighbors, who, through the tremendous efforts coordinated by Guyana, have all sent aid to Venezuela,” Rodríguez said, thanking the leaders of Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Belize, and other member states by name.
She also highlighted Haiti’s contribution of 35 doctors and a field hospital.
“Haiti will always stand with Venezuela, and Venezuela will always stand with Haiti,” she said.
Rodríguez later traveled to the Brisas de Maiquetía neighborhood in La Guaira state to receive 33.9 tons of humanitarian aid sent by Türkiye.
“I want to thank President Erdoğan, his government, and the people of Türkiye. I know they have shared our pain since the very first moment the double earthquake struck Venezuela,” Rodríguez said alongside Turkish Ambassador Naci Aydan Karamanoglu.
A separate shipment carrying 35 tons of humanitarian aid also arrived from Russia on Tuesday to strengthen assistance for thousands of earthquake victims.
The Russian cargo includes 9.5 tons of nonperishable food, 4.5 tons of medical supplies, and 21 tons of personal care products. The donation also provides large quantities of medical equipment and 30 high-capacity family tents, enough to shelter 300 people.
Meanwhile, Simón Bolívar International Airport in La Guaira, which remains closed to commercial flights but continues operating for relief missions, received another 70 tons of medical supplies from the United Arab Emirates, primarily orthopedic equipment and materials for the country’s 107 temporary camps.
“With this gesture, the United Arab Emirates reaffirms its solidarity with the Venezuelan people during this difficult time,” said Tariq Ahmad Hassan, Chargé d’Affaires of the UAE Embassy in Caracas, adding that his country will continue working with Venezuelan authorities throughout the recovery process.
Together, the four shipments totaled 226.9 tons of humanitarian aid destined for a network of shelters currently serving more than 20,000 people, according to official figures.
During a regular parliamentary session, Jorge Rodríguez stated:
“We accepted every single offer of aid. This was not the time for political disputes. This was the time to put the suffering of the Venezuelan people first.”
Three weeks after the twin earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5, which claimed 4,734 lives and caused $37 billion in direct physical damage, according to the United Nations, international humanitarian assistance continues to reach Venezuela.
