The Daily Journal.— Juan Sulbarán Quintero, commander general of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB), called on members of the force Tuesday to remain loyal to Acting President Delcy Rodríguez as seven months passed since the U.S. military operation that resulted in Nicolás Maduro’s capture.

“We have a duty to fulfill, and we must remain loyal to our President of the Republic, Dr. Delcy Eloína Rodríguez,” Sulbarán Quintero said in a statement marking the military force’s 89th anniversary.

The major general said members of the National Guard, who maintain internal order and support the country’s defense, have “an unwavering commitment to continue guaranteeing national sovereignty and the stability of state institutions together with our sister branches—the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Militia.”

The statement does not mention Nicolás Maduro or the U.S. military operation in Venezuela on January 3, when authorities captured him along with his wife, Cilia Flores. Both have remained in a federal prison in New York since then.

As part of the National Guard’s 89th anniversary, Rodríguez inaugurated new medical care facilities at the General Command Polyclinic in Caracas. She also delivered motorcycles and pickup trucks to strengthen the institution’s medical services and operational capabilities.
