The Daily Journal — During the commemoration of Simón Bolívar’s birthday and Bolivarian Navy Day, Acting President Delcy Rodríguez led a ceremony at the Ministry of Defense.
During the event, Rodríguez promoted 168 generals and admirals of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB). The group included 57 Army officers, 29 Navy officers, 30 Air Force officers, and 52 National Guard officers.
Honors and promotion figures
The ceremony also recognized the top-ranking officers from the 1993 graduating class. Those officers officially began their transition into active reserve status.
With these promotions, the FANB has promoted a total of 19,439 service members in 2026, including 13,137 men and 6,302 women.
Defense Minister confirmed and new appointments
On Saturday, Rodríguez announced changes to the military leadership through Telegram.
She first confirmed General-in-Chief Gustavo González López as Minister of Defense, highlighting his loyalty and commitment to national sovereignty.
Rodríguez also announced several strategic appointments:
- CEOFANB: Rubén Darío Belzares Escobar will serve as Commander, with Víctor Hugo Borjas Trujillo as Second Commander.
- CODAI: José Freitas Gómez will lead the Aerospace Defense Command.
- Bolivarian Army: Pedro Esteban González Ovalles will serve as Commanding General.
Confirmations across military branches and REDI
Rodríguez also confirmed the commanders of the Navy, Air Force, National Guard, and Bolivarian Militia in their current positions.
Finally, she appointed the commanders of the Strategic Integral Defense Regions (REDI). Rodríguez called on military authorities to maintain discipline and strengthen the country’s operational capabilities.
