The Daily Journal .- Dr. Ismardo Bonalde has been awarded the prestigious 2026 “Bernard Coqblin” International Physics Prize , according to the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC) .
The Venezuelan physicist was recognized for “his exceptional contributions in the field of Strongly Correlated Electron Systems (SCES).”
The award honors the memory of renowned French physicist Bernard Coqblin (1941–2012) and is granted exclusively to scientists who succeed in establishing and consolidating vibrant and dynamic research activity in countries where this area of physics is not formally developed.
Dr. Bonalde serves as Senior Principal Researcher and Head of the Low Temperature and Liquefaction Laboratory at IVIC’s Physics Center. He is also a full member of the Academy of Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences .
According to the institutional report, throughout his career the scientist has played a key role in placing Venezuela on the international map of quantum physics, superconductivity, and low-temperature physics .
The world’s physics elite will gather in Japan
The official award ceremony will take place during the International Conference on Strongly Correlated Electron Systems (SCES) , one of the most important global events in this field of physics.
This year’s conference will be held from September 27 to October 2 at the Toyama International Conference Center in Japan .
At this summit, some of the world’s leading scientists will gather to discuss the latest discoveries in quantum phenomena and the development of new materials expected to shape the technology of the future.
