The Daily Journal — Diosdado Cabello, secretary-general of Venezuela’s ruling United Socialist Party (PSUV), denied rumors of a secret meeting between Acting President Delcy Rodríguez and opposition leader María Corina Machado.
During the party’s weekly press conference, Cabello dismissed reports circulating on social media and digital platforms, describing them as opposition attempts to create false expectations among their supporters.
“They come up with their own stories. It’s all nonsense. Those are their lies; they are giving themselves hope,” the ruling-party leader told reporters.
“Even Less With Her”: Chavismo Rejects Any Capitulation
Cabello stressed that government forces are not engaged in political negotiations with the leaders of the Unitary Platform. He argued that the opposition distorts the narrative of the dialogue to project a position of strength that, in his view, they do not possess.
“The idea of us sitting down to talk with them is not a capitulation. But there is nothing on the table with them, and even less with her. No meeting has taken place anywhere in the world. The President has not met with anyone resembling that figure,” he said.
The PSUV spokesman also criticized what he described as efforts to shape public opinion through speculation.
“They create their own narrative. Someone starts the story: ‘They already talked, and this woman set the conditions.’ What conditions? They are not in a position—if you’ll excuse the expression—to set conditions in this country. They simply are not,” he stated.
The Government’s Dialogue Model
Cabello dismissed opposition efforts to undermine unity within the ruling party.
“In their imagination, they believe this is going to weaken Chavismo,” he said.
He concluded by defending the government’s approach to political dialogue.
“There has been a broad national dialogue in this country ever since Commander Chávez became President of the Republic, because his administration gave a voice to people who had never had one in this country,” he argued.
