The Daily Journal — U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated that his administration currently maintains “a very good relationship” with Venezuela and said the United States is receiving substantial financial resources from the country. While speaking aboard Air Force One, a reporter repeatedly asked him about the destination of the money the United States receives from Venezuela.
“To run the country,” Trump replied.
The reporter also asked about a Financial Times report stating that the United States has received up to US$13 billion from the sale of Venezuelan oil. Trump suggested that the actual amount “could be even higher.”
According to his remarks, those funds represent compensation for costs associated with previous conflicts in the region.
“We paid for that war many times,” the president said, suggesting that his administration is recovering or capitalizing on past strategic investments.
“US$13 billion from Venezuela? I think it’s even more than that. No, Venezuela… we paid for that war many times, and the same will happen with Iran. We paid for the war many times (…); and we’re receiving a lot of money, billions and billions of dollars from Venezuela,” Trump said.
