The Daily Journal.- The government will relocate students from 91 schools affected by the June 24 earthquakes during the upcoming academic year, Education Minister Héctor Rodríguez said Tuesday.
During an event in Caracas alongside acting President Delcy Rodríguez, the minister explained that 11 schools collapsed, while the other 80 sustained structural damage.
Starting on September 14, the scheduled start of the 2026-2027 school year, authorities will transfer students to other schools near their homes.
Rodríguez said the earthquakes affected nearly 900 of Venezuela’s 27,000 schools, although most sustained only minor damage.
The use of schools as shelters for families who lost their homes has also affected educational infrastructure. According to the minister, families have already vacated 12 of the 67 temporary shelters set up in schools, as part of a plan to move them to single-family camps or provide them with housing.
