The Daily Journal. — Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA) aims to increase production to 1.3 million barrels per day this year and 1.5 million in 2027, supported by the entry of private operators, the reactivation of drilling rigs and the adoption of new technologies, the company’s Executive Vice President Jovanny Martínez said.
The target is to develop part of a 10-year industry recovery plan that includes developing 17 strategic fields through agreements with international private operators, Martínez explained during an interview with Telesur.
The state-owned oil company plans to incorporate automation systems, AI-powered remote monitoring and technologies for drilling and well completion, along with equipment for crude oil separation and produced-water management.
Expanding drilling activity will represent one of the plan’s main components. PDVSA aims to reactivate 250 drilling rigs across the country, an initiative that Martínez said will require a significant expansion of the workforce.
The company estimates that the technical and logistical activities associated with the program could require at least 100,000 additional workers.
The plan also seeks to restore part of the industrial infrastructure that supports oil operations. Martínez said operational restrictions in recent years encouraged the development of domestic capacity to manufacture spare parts and mechanical components for the industry.
PDVSA has also entered into a partnership with GE Vernova to restore operational capabilities and develop systems that will reduce the oil industry’s dependence on the National Electric System.
Martínez said the plan includes operating power generation systems in “island mode” to provide greater energy autonomy to oil fields and other company facilities.
