The IMF expects Venezuela’s GDP to grow by 7% in 2027, while average annual inflation will decline to 174%.
The Daily Journal.- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) projects that Venezuela’s economy will grow by 5% in 2026 and 7% in 2027. However, the organization expects inflation to reach 467.9% by the end of this year, according to forecasts released Tuesday in its World Economic Outlook (WEO) report.
The IMF’s estimates point to faster economic growth next year, accompanied by easing inflationary pressures. For 2027, the organization forecasts an average annual inflation rate of 174% in Venezuela.
The projections highlight the coexistence of expanding economic activity and severe price imbalances, as the U.S. dollar continues to serve as a key benchmark for pricing goods and services in the Venezuelan market.
Experts identify the depreciation of the bolívar against the U.S. dollar as a key driver of rising costs in Venezuela, which experienced hyperinflation between 2017 and 2021.
The IMF expects Venezuela’s economic growth rate to increase by two percentage points in 2027 compared with 2026, while its projected average annual inflation rate for 2027 would fall below the estimated year-end figure for 2026. Nevertheless, the organization expects Venezuela to continue facing persistently high inflation despite its projected economic expansion.
