Earthquake death toll rises to 920, Jorge Rodríguez reports

The Daily Journal. —The President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, updated the official damage assessment left by the powerful earthquakes recorded on June 24, reporting 920 fatalities, 3,360 injured or affected people, and more than 4,000 displaced.

La Guaira state accounts for the highest amount of material damage, with a record of 383 residential buildings that suffered total or major structural failure. Furthermore, the general infrastructure assessment reports damage to 3 hospitals, 25 shopping centers, and 1,002 other public and private structures.

Given the magnitude of the event, Rodríguez made an urgent appeal to the citizenship to avoid traveling to La Guaira state. He emphasized that it is “essential to keep public roads clear to avoid traffic congestion, thereby guaranteeing the swift transport of the injured and the smooth deployment of rescue and salvage teams.
