The Daily Journal. — A total of 7,876 volunteers have registered at the enrollment center established at the Poliedro de Caracas to support operations in the areas affected by the June 24 earthquakes, National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez announced on Sunday.
According to Rodríguez, the registration system has helped organize the massive wave of citizen support that emerged after the disaster and has allowed authorities to assign volunteers according to operational needs.
“The volunteer registration process at the Poliedro de Caracas has progressed almost flawlessly. It has brought order to the overwhelming desire of Venezuelans to help their fellow citizens,” Rodríguez said during an official emergency briefing.
Rodríguez explained that, after an initial period of disorder caused by the large number of people eager to help, the system now assigns volunteers based on priorities established by emergency authorities.
“The initial disorder has given way to an organized system in which volunteers receive assignments according to the priorities established by the emergency agencies,” he said.
The government official added that, once volunteers complete the registration process, they receive a safe-conduct pass and join organized convoys traveling to La Guaira state, the region hardest hit by the earthquakes.
“After completing the process, volunteers receive their safe-conduct pass and travel in organized convoys, accompanied by security forces, to La Guaira, where they carry out their assigned duties,” he explained.
Authorities have repeatedly stressed that prior registration remains essential to prevent congestion in the disaster zones and to improve coordination of rescue operations, medical assistance, and humanitarian aid distribution across the states affected by the earthquakes.
