The Daily Journal. — Three weeks after the earthquakes that struck north-central Venezuela, the Venezuelan Banking Association (Asobanca) announced financial relief measures for businesses in La Guaira state.

The banking association reported that about 40% of the 12,300 point-of-sale terminals operated by private banks in the state are currently processing commercial transactions.

According to Asobanca, this figure reflects the extent of the damage to the local commercial infrastructure. The association explained that many businesses suffered severe damage, remain inaccessible, or are still in the process of reopening.

Given this situation, Asobanca identified the gradual increase of that percentage as a key objective for the coming months as the region continues its recovery and stabilization.

In its official statement, the association announced a 90-day waiver of transaction fees for payments processed through point-of-sale terminals in La Guaira.

The organization also said private financial institutions continue to maintain direct contact with their clients to assess the physical and operational condition of their businesses.

According to the statement, banks are revising current financing terms to provide special repayment options and develop financial support programs aimed at helping businesses rebuild.
