The Daily Journal — Acting President Delcy Rodríguez met on Wednesday with Gianluca Rampolla, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Venezuela, to define the recovery and assistance plan for the victims of the earthquakes that struck the country on June 24.
Officials held the meeting in Caracas to strengthen the humanitarian response framework, reinforce transparency, and improve field operations. Rampolla said the United Nations is working in full coordination with Venezuelan state institutions to deliver a high-level technical response.
Rampolla attended the meeting alongside Luis Francisco Thais, the UNDP representative; Janeth Fernández, the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment advisor; and Luis Bárcenas, the economic advisor.
The Venezuelan delegation included sectoral vice presidents Héctor Rodríguez, Minister of Education; Calixto Ortega, Vice President for the Economy; Juan José Ramírez, Vice President for Public Works and Services; Félix Plasencia, Minister of Foreign Trade; and Oliver Blanco, Vice Minister for Europe and North America.
The latest official figures, updated on Wednesday, reported 5,398 deaths and 16,740 injuries resulting from the earthquakes. Government agencies are assisting 128,324 families, while 23,335 people remain in 107 temporary camps. Authorities have distributed 10,964 metric tons of food and 44.5 million liters of water, with 2,278 international rescue workers deployed across the affected areas.
Rodríguez thanked multilateral organizations for their cooperation and support in the humanitarian assistance plan for earthquake victims.
