The Daily Journal.— An earthquake with a magnitude above 4 struck early Tuesday morning, with its epicenter in La Guaira state, acting President Delcy Rodríguez reported on social media.
In a message posted at 3:43 a.m., Rodríguez said the earthquake occurred at approximately 3:20 a.m. and that authorities immediately activated contingency protocols.
“I want to report that approximately 23 minutes ago, a noticeable earthquake with an epicenter in La Guaira and a magnitude above 4 occurred. Our Protection System is active and monitoring the situation,” Rodríguez wrote.
She also said authorities had found no material damage or injuries in the coastal area or nearby locations as of her statement: “So far, we have received no reports of any type of damage. We remain alert and continue working to ensure everyone’s safety.”
On June 24, La Guaira was one of the epicenters of a double earthquake that struck north-central Venezuela. According to the latest official figures, the death toll stands at 6,438, while the number of people still missing remains undetermined.
Hundreds of buildings completely collapsed in La Guaira, along with several buildings in Caracas. Authorities estimate that the disaster displaced around 18,000 people and project that they will need to build 25,000 homes to address the emergency.
