The Daily Journal.— The Military High Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) formally expressed its support on Tuesday for the energy agreement between Venezuela and the United States to develop 17 oil fields that account for one-fifth of the country’s proven crude oil reserves.
Defense Minister Gustavo González López made the statement after a meeting at Miraflores Palace with Acting President Delcy Rodríguez.
At the end of the meeting, during which officials assessed operational readiness and the institutional situation of military units, González López outlined the Armed Forces’ position on bilateral negotiations with Washington: “Turning a political disagreement into an economic cooperation agreement is simply a decision to pursue peace; it is not subordination,” he said.
González López said the Military High Command “fully agrees” with the deal, which Donald Trump has described as “the largest oil deal in world history.”
“We support all the actions that our commander in Venezuela has deemed appropriate to achieve the prosperity and well-being that we will soon see in the country,” the defense minister added.
