The Daily Journal – The U.S. Embassy released an official statement on Thursday welcoming the arrival in Caracas of the 2015 Venezuelan National Assembly delegation, led by Dinorah Figuera, to begin direct, in-person talks with Venezuela’s interim government. Through the diplomatic mission, the U.S. administration described the meeting as a strategic opportunity to advance the country’s reinstitutionalization and stability.

In its official statement, the embassy stressed the urgent need to coordinate efforts to assist the communities affected by the earthquakes that struck on June 24. It also reiterated the need to expand political freedoms and restore the foundations of Venezuela’s economy.
The statement also reaffirmed the White House’s ongoing commitment to the negotiated process, noting that the dialogue forms part of the three-phase plan aimed at achieving stability, economic recovery, reconciliation, and a peaceful transition led by Venezuelans themselves.
